Doodle Skincare: 3 Tips for Treating Dry Itchy Skin

Mom and I have been spending time on the east coast with friends and family and although NYC is absolutely magical during the holiday months, the cold air has been a nemesis to my skin. Between the heating system, dry winter air and occasional bug bites, my skin has flared up with a few red itchy patches. As I write this, I have a dry patch on my head, shoulder, stomach and bum!

So without further delay, here are my top 3 go-to’s to keep your skin healthy and feeling good:

  1. Use a Humidifier. In dry winter and/or summer months use a humidifier during bedtime. Securely place it between 3-5 feet away from your bed, preferably on an elevated surface so that the mist has a chance to mix with the air.

  2. Natural Spot Treatments: Apply a natural non-toxic balm or cream to affected areas immediately upon discovery. Mom’s favorite balm is the Organic Skin Soother by The Natural Dog Company. It is non-toxic, applies very easily and best of all it is safe to lick! Yup! :) Dry itchy skin will often noticeably begin to heal and clear up within just one day of use! Use Code: REDRUBY for a discount on NDC products!

  3. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate :) If mom notices that I haven’t been drinking my water throughout the day, she will give me a small dry/crunchy treat or 2 to prompt me to seek a few sips (or slups) of some good ole delicious H2o!

Bonus Tip: Avoid excessive or unnecessary bathing as this can be one of the biggest culprits of dry skin! Use gentle shampoos and conditioners and remember to rinse thoroughly :)
