Doodle Hair: Shampoos & Conditioners Review
Hair! Such an important topic - especially for us Doodles. Maintaining a clean, soft and tangle-free coat is essential to our overall happiness as mats, knots and unkept hair can lead to skin issues and attract and trap dirt and fleas. And if you’re like me and like a “shaggy” look with a bit of length to it, it will require some routine maintenance. I’m still perfecting my coat care process and will be sharing much more on this topic soon! For now, let’s start off easy and talk basics…
Shampoo & Conditioners: What I’ve Discovered and Have Used So Far
Under 5 Months. With a ton of options out there where do you even start?! I was 10 weeks old when I took my first bath at home. To keep it simple, I used Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented Pure Castile Liquid Soap. I believe it’s a great option at this very young stage for multiple reasons, but primarily because it’s a well trusted brand, and I wanted to limit/avoid any potential adverse skin reactions. Do not use around the face or eye area as the formula is NOT tear-free, BUT it is non-toxic and is made with organic oils and is free of any dyes and fragrances, making it a great first choice.
5 Months. As my hair grew out more, the need to manage it more proactively did as well. Since the groomer’s were closed because of COVID, it was at this stage when I invested in clippers and started to explore other products and grooming tools. This is also around the time my Titi Millie recommended that I try Burt’s Bee Care Plus+ Hydrating Shampoo with Coconut Oil and the Conditioner as well. It’s what she had been using on my primo, Chico Valentino, and liked the results. I was happy as can be when it also worked for me - it leaves my coat really soft and helps make it more manageable. So far, I have been using this during baths exclusively.
8 Months+ -My hair is now much fuller in certain areas and mats have been forming more frequently. Additionally, I’ve developed a few hot spots which have led to some skin irritations, so I’m now in search of shampoo and conditioner options that will also help relieve and heal those itchy patches. I’m waiting for delivery of a new shampoo, which we’re really excited to try. The brand has received outstanding reviews for their products, and we recently purchased another item that’s been helping. I will be sharing my feedback once I’ve had ample time to test it out - so stay tuned for an update on this post!
